MARCH 29,3009:
Today, the loo blowing through this tiny town is hotter than usual.though to call this place a town would not be exactly correct but Haripur is the only place left habitable on the surface of the earth which itself has changed into a huge boundles desert.
The increased pollution levels had caused such drastic changes in the environment that very few forms of life had survived. This was mainly because the ozone layer had depleted so much that it had led to a phenomenon commonly called "Burnout" in which the sun's direct rays had caused the death of many life forms by burning them to death.Haripur survived because it was situated in such a region where the killer rays had not been able to reach as of yet.
But the hide and seek game has ended. The Climate Monitoring Headquarters had informed the residents that the ozone layer above them had started degrading and within a few hours they would meet the same fate met by others.
That is why even in such a hot day everyone is digging a small area in order to make a shelter to save themselves from the killer rays.A Race between time, nature and life has started.
Watching all these through his binoculars from the balcony of his house at the outskirts of Haripur Vikrant sadly shakes his head. He knows this are futile efforts. The damage has been done.
Vikrant is an environmentalist. He had come and settled in Haripur with Ayesha, his wife when it had been a beautiful place full of flora n fauna. But despite his best efforts he had watched it transform into a desert town before his eyes.He had lost his parents in "The Burnout" and knew that even they had tried many methods to survive but had failed. He himself had tried to restore some greenery in Haripur by planting some plants but was forced to be a mere spectator as the trees slowly died due to lack of proper growth conditions.
-----------------------------------------------------------
As the light decreased the flurry of activities in the town also went down. Finally all decided to call it aday and go to their homes.Vikrant also removed the binoculars from his eyes and went inside their house.Ayesha had already laid out the table for dinner. There was an unusual gloom in the air as they silently had their dinner.
After retiring to bed they held each other's hands and assured each other not to worry and be brave.
At around 5 in the morning Vikrant is pulled awake by aloud beep on the radio. Something important was being transmitted. He rubbed his eyes and switched on the receiver.A clear voice was saying,"Fellow mates out there. With great regret in my heart I have to inform you that we have entered the last hour of our lives.Brace up yourselves and make yourselves ready to face the punishment of all our sins together."

Tale Of A Date Saturday, February 14, 2009 |

She is my first and the only love till this point. Her name is Nivedita, a software engineer by profession. She is turning twenty-four shortly and she is undoubtedly the most beautiful girl on earth. I made it a point to share my feelings today with her, hoping this letter would do it all.
I have not written any letters in my life till now, and this is perhaps the first time I pen down my thoughts and expectations for the person I love the most on earth. It's been four years since we met each other and a strong bond has grown between us through these years.
I was unaware of her love for a long time. In fact, I hadn't spoken a word with her till about a year I had seen her for the first time. It was in one long journey in train, I understood her love for me. It happened a year ago.

It was a trip from Kanyakumari to Chennai in Kanyakumari Express. We had passed Vizhupuram and it was 3 am in the morning. I thought I was the only one who was awake in the whole compartment in that early hour. But to my surprise, she was also awake.

I didn't know then that it was for me she had got up that early. Hardly had she seemed to move her sight away from me. She smiled at me very often and every time I encountered that cute smile, I started eagerly awaiting the next battle with her smile and shining eyes. Her smile had everything in it, the story of unbelievable affection, care and what not.

From that moment, till now, I too have loved her to a great extent. We have never exchanged words about the love we have towards each other, but words are too less to reflect the amount of affection and love we share. I have always thought that the love would remain throughout our life and it happened to be the same till three months back.

Vivek had come into my life three months back. In fact I myself had waited his arrival for quite a long time, but from the moment he arrived, he has been the worst enemy in my life. Nivedita and he had grown close over times and the fraction of time she spent with me got lowered to a great extent. Even the latest Sensex fall would be less compared to the fall in her affection for me.

I have wondered how it could suddenly happen, after near to four long years of understanding and love amidst us. At times, I have felt like killing that guy Vivek, but I have not had that much strength or braveness to do that. Still, what can he do? He did no mistake to his part, except for being born charming, cute and fair.

Two days before when I saw her, she was feeding food for him and I was hurt to the core on seeing the incident. My anger had boiled down to tears, and I broke. It took almost close to three hours for me stop crying, I felt I had cried more than how much I would have cried when I was born.
I have been trying to understand where it all went wrong, but to my fortune, till now, I haven't been able spot it out. Once for all, I decided to tell all my feelings to her, no matter how she is going to deal with it. I have heard my dad saying a lot of times 'Something is better than nothing!' and I made up my mind to do 'something'.

I fixed today to be the 'DATE' for throwing open in front of her the 'TALE’ of my pure love for her. I don't know whether I will get a positive response from her, but I pray God that only the best happens.

Trrrrriinnnnnnggggg…

My school bell has rung. The lunch break is over. My 'UKG' classmates would be ready to welcome me with the same cute smile as ever.

I hope my 'MOTHER' Nivedita will be alright, understands me and shares Some time with me also, apart from that she spends with my three months old rascal 'BROTHER' Vivek.

See you after a break!!!

Now Pls Read Again…..

My Life In The Last Bench Saturday, January 17, 2009 |

Well today was my english exam. And till yesterday i didnt know anything about language.

If i have to thank someone thats Niks- my friend without whom i had no chance of passing.

Any ways i reflected why I was in such a condition. And yesterday i realised in that process that i had lived all of my class life in the last bench. This is the story of "the last bencher who dreamed"....yeah all my dreams have been concocted in the comfort of the last bench , all my stories have taken place in its cozy area. And if i remember something from my school days that is the " Last Bench ".

I should start with how i came to the last bench. I was a chronic first bencher in my 11 days. Always the teacher's boy. The pure geek who listened to whatever the teacher said. But after I realised it had not helped my growth in any way (u see i was stuck with 11 course)..i decided the first day of my 12 ...to change my past and see what was the spice of the last bench. And believe me guys , today in whatever position i m its all thanks to the last bench. I realised there only that what mattered was productivity not show. And hence i raise a toast to all last benchers.

let me tell my some snippets of my life in the last bench. The last bench is the perfect place to observe people you know. U can see for yourself the things that people are doing inside the class. And that is very interesting. As u see only the nerds at the first are listening in a boring class , rest are amusing themselves. Most of then are interested in sleeping or playing games with their partner. U know in dese last bench adventures i became the king of "cross-n-noughts". Now i can challenge anyone that nobody can beat me there.U can also see the chalk fights. And i firmly believe the commandos of our army are born from there. Its takes great srvival instinct to win there.

Last bench is pretty exciting. And my partner in crime was the evergreen Bitopan ....later on Mrinal was also to the group. We used to discuss mainly about how the college life would be, what would each one of us do dere, n also discussed the latest scandals....(i claim this that there is not a story in our school that is spicy and not known too us)...umm and yeah we used to discuss about the "ahem" dresses worn by our *various* dresses...some were too outrageous(No Money No Car No Chance and Soft touch were classic)...n some were too sucking for an opinion. And i dont forget the duels in multiplayer golf too. they were so good.
And add those conversations(paper mein) with SRK. i got the hottest news from there.

As an previous alumni of the last bench , I would add that life in the last bench is something that is the most exciting things in school. I miss my last bench n owe it a lot towards my development.

(P.S.: I m launching my guest coloumn in a few days. And my first guest writer will be someone who will tell us about her "Life in IIT- Delhi"...so stay tuned.)

Jhonny Walker--Keep walking Saturday, January 3, 2009 |

(THE WALKER IS SHANTI DEVI THOUGH :) )

You wouldn't know how it feels to be seventy-and-two, alone, disowned and blind. But Shanti Devi did. Shanti Devi - which meant the goddess of peace - how ironical could things be. Shanti Devi was considered no more than a blind pack of bones by her sons who had asked her to leave 'their' house. She served no purpose and just took up space in the house. She kept crashing everywhere, made irritating noises with her walking stick most of the the time, and spoke no better than babble. Her sons thought her fit to be homeless.

The destitute lady moved slowly with her walking stick unaware of her surroundings. Her eyes had left her long ago and now everyone she had had too.... or maybe she never had them. She had no purpose, no destination. Knowing not where to go, she kept walking slowly, thinking death was her only home, wishing that it devour her as soon as possible. So she kept walking and walking and walking and waited for death.

The world was full of noise, of people shouting, of sirens, of cars, of chats and cries but what was the purpose. People jostled her here and there, someone pushed her, someone stopped her but she kept going steady, apathetic. Death is the ultimate end. Death is the final outcome. Nothing could penetrate her ears now. She had to just keep walking. An uproar happened and a horn blared loudly but did she care? Did she care that on the busy day hundreds of people were restrained by the policemen who waited to go to their desinations? Did she care that she was in the middle of a road which had been cleared for the President's cavalcade which traveled at almost double the speed of normal traffic? Did she care that the first car of the cavalcade was about to crash into her? Perhaps not. But Bhanu Prasad cared. His valor pushed him forward, out of the crowd to be held by the hand by a policeman. He pushed the policeman and ran forward towards the old lady as fast as he possibly could. He pushed her aside just before the braking limo hit him at speed of light. Bhanu Prasad died there and then.

Shanti Devi's emaciated body got a push so hard, she flew and landed onto the footpath and rolled over to the next street on the downsloped road. The policeman Bhanu Prasad had pushed lost his balance, tripped and fell head first into an open manhole. The car in the procession braked so hard, it toppled over, took a few and crashed into the public which had been stopped by the policemen. The rest of the cars crashed into first car and the whole cavalcade was obliterated by an explosion which resulted from the combustion of the leaking fuel from one of the cars. All of the people, including the president died from the explosion. The people who were left alive to witness the explosion ran with all their might, resulting in a stampede and killing many more. Yasaf ali, a suicide bomber whose mission was to kill the president thought he would now have to save his life for another heaven-worthy task. But he was also killed in the stampede and the burdensome weight of people's legs could not be endured by the bomb.

In a matter of 20 seconds, all that was left was Shanti Devi - bleeding from the head, unaware of what happened, in agony and now in pain. But did she care? Perhaps not. She began to walk again and and started to wait again.
